New News

I am at the NICU the majority of this week and it is SO nice to not have to rush everywhere I go! So peaceful just knowing that I will have time to get back and forth and have time to relax with my boys. Because I only have an opportunity to change their diapers and hold them at the top of the hour (Max - 5:00, 8:00, 11:00, 2:00 ... Luke - 4:00, 7:00, 10:00, 1:00) if I miss one of these times I have to wait another 3 hours until their next care comes up! Sometimes it can drive you crazy when you throw pumping, every 3 hours also, in there! But... when I am here for an extended time I can get myself on a better schedule!

Mr. Max is now over 4 lbs!!!!!! He is 4 lbs 1 oz as of tonight (Monday). According to babycenter.com he is right where he would be if he was still in my belly! Luke is thankfully maintaining and even gaining a little through this whole feeding crisis. He is now 3 lbs, but some of that could be from fluid retention from his IV. Still... 3 lbs is 3 lbs, we'll take it! He is looking good too. Starting to fill out more and the boys are starting to look more and more alike now. Respiratory wise they are both still doing so well. Breathing completely on their own and having fewer spells. Caleb thinks Max is ready to go home now... but I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet!

Luke still is having troubles with his feedings. Since the last time I have posted he has been on and off of Elecare twice. That is how fast things change. His belly will look ok, so they start him. Then he spits up with every feeding and his belly bloats up. So... I really don't get what is going on! All I know is that the doctor cannot convince me that this is a little preemie digestive blurp (no pun intended), I think there is something bigger going on. Please just pray that God heals Luke of these problems and that God gives the doctors wisdom to deal with this situation.

So.... this couple on the video posted below were in the NICU with a situation amazingly similar to ours, just months ago. They had twin boys born around the same gestational age as our boys and lived far away from Duluth. They LIVED here until their boys were well and experienced much of the same things we am going through now. This video will give you a little glimpse into our everyday world. Even though the it looks so peaceful as the camera zooms around... you need to imagine that you are a little silver ball inside of a pinball machine while you watch it to get the real effect of being inside of the NICU! DING - DING... BeepBeepBeep... Deee - deee - deee.... beep beeEEP BEEEP!! Haha... trust me! Watch until the last frame though... it makes me cry everytime! Praise God for the NICU!

  1. Glad to hear that they are getting big!! I was talking to Drew the other day about the NICU and that I didn't think that you all had private rooms...that has to be awful. They had just remodeled the hospital we were at like a year before Jesse was born, so he had a small private room, and it did help a lot!!! I know it has be hard to get through it, and I am so glad that you get to spend most of the week with Max and Luke!!!
